The Lip Flip Trend

Chances are, if you’re an active injector on social media, you’ve heard of the neurotoxins Lip Flip trend. While it’s actually been around for a long time, it provides a great opportunity for marketing to your patients who are just now hearing about it!

What is a lip flip?

A lip flip with neurotoxins is a subtle, but transformative procedure that enhances lip appearance without the need for dermal fillers. Unlike fillers, which add volume directly to the lips, a lip flip involves injecting neurotoxins into the muscle around the upper lip. By relaxing these muscles, neurotoxins injections can create a fuller, more defined upper lip, perfect for those seeking a natural-looking enhancement.

Preparing your patient

As with any neurotoxin treatment, you’ll first need to do a patient consultation and assessment. Make sure that your patient’s expectations align with the projected outcome. The purpose of the procedure is to invert the lip so that it slightly appears to “flip” upward, providing a look of fullness.

Because the sensitive nature of the lip area, you’ll want to numb your patient beforehand, using a topical anesthetic cream. You may also use ice packs to minimize discomfort during the injections.

The lip flip procedure

Using a fine gauge needle, you’ll inject small amounts of neurotoxins just beneath the skin along the upper lip’s vermillion border.  You’ll specifically target the orbicularis oris muscle, which encircles the mouth. The dosing will be conservative to start.  That way, you can see how the patient will do by just losing a little mobility of the top lip. Remind your patient that it won’t affect lip sensation, but will just provide slight immobility of the upper portion.

Post-care for your patient

Over the next several days, the upper lip will become more visible thanks to the relaxed muscle. The lip will then take on a slightly fuller appearance.  You’ll want to do a follow up 2-3 weeks later to make sure the desired results have been achieved. Let your patient know that as with any neurotoxins procedure, the results will typically last around 2-4 months. After that, the muscle activity gradually returns and the upper lip may revert to its previous appearance.

Marketing the lip flip

Lip Flips make a great low cost, add-on procedure to your existing patients. Lip Flips also make a great option for those looking for subtle lip enhancement without the full-look of dermal fillers. Promoting lip flips on social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) is also a great way to shore up new business. Also, don’t forget the tried and true “before and after” photos. People love to see results that can be achieved (after getting your patient’s permission to use their photos, of course!).

Performing a lip flip with neurotoxins requires skill and attention to detail to achieve natural-looking results. Always adhere to safety guidelines and ensure proper training for administering aesthetic injections. Once you’ve learned the art of lip flips, you can effectively market and attract new patients, to further establish your expertise in these minimally invasive cosmetic enhancements.
