A New Lip Filler Trend Could Help Soften Up Your Resting Face

Many people, women in particular, complain about their resting or expressionless face that unintentionally appears as if they are annoyed, angry or irritated when they are relaxed, resting, or otherwise showing no emotion. Other people may think this person looks mean or unfriendly when they don’t intend to.

Enter the Lift Edge Filler

The lift edge filler trend is extremely popular in South Korea, where it derives its name from. Lift Edge Filler comes from its literal Korean-to-English translation which alludes to exactly what the treatment does – lift the edges of the smile.

For this treatment, a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, typically Restylane Refyne or Juvéderm Volbella XC, is injected into the outer corners of the lips at an upward angle, causing them to go upwards. The result is a happy looking patient with a semi-permanent smile on their face. It gives the ability to people who have a resting “sad” face, to soften up their look.

The side effects and downtime are similar to any other injectable treatment. The injections last just as long as any other lip injection, which is between 6 months to a year.

Other patients might seek this treatment out because they feel the edges of their mouth have fallen due to age. Or, patients who have had the center of their lips volumized, may want to balance out the edges of their lips.

Different than a lip lift

A lift lip involves surgically shortening the space between the bottom of your nose and the top of your lip. This procedure raises the edges or corners of the mouth, makes the lips more enhanced and the cupid’s bow more defined. An actual lift is permanent, but a bit more invasive than an injection.  Following the procedure, patients will experience swelling and will require significant downtime.

For patients looking to soften the look of their “relaxed” face, a lift edge filler may be an appropriate solution for them, especially if they want to avoid surgery such as a lip lift.
