Allergan has released their newest hyaluronic acid dermal filler Juvederm Vollure XC for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Vollure is the newest product formulated with Allergan’s proprietary Vycross technology and it is gaining lots of attention in the aesthetics industry for a number of reasons.
Allergan’s Vycross technology, which is also used in Juvederm Voluma XC and Juvederm Volbella XC, creates a more connected gel holding together the hyaluronic acid in a cohesive form. For the patient, it means that the product works to fill lines and smooth out wrinkles but it also allows for fluid facial movements and expressions.
Injectors are saying that Juvederm Vollure is very user-friendly, malleable and smooth, requiring minimal plunger pressure. It is great for subtly adding volume to the cheeks while not creating a huge step off. In other words, it is perfect for blending a nice volumized cheek with the lower facial features. Vollure is also applicable for lips, nasolabial folds, horizontal chin lines, marionette lines, and laugh lines.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this product is the longevity of the effects that patients are experiencing. It is shown to produce effects lasting up to 18 months from the initial injection or touch up injection, which is the longest lasting result for nasolabial folds on the market today. In a US pivotal clinical trial, 82% of patients were very satisfied at 6 months, and 68% were very satisfied at 18 months. Longevity of a product is becoming more and more critical to patients who don’t want to come in for a touch-up every 6 months.
As with all of the Vycross technology line of products, Vollure is less hydrophilic than the other Allergan products such as Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus. For patients, this means that after injecting Vollure, there is minimal swelling and a short recovery time. This combined with the longevity of the product makes it a perfect solution for prospective patients who want to look younger without all the potential side effects and touch ups that come with various treatments.
Every patient is different, and it is important to talk to your patients about their expectations and desired results, to see if Juvederm Vollure is a good choice for them.
