Keep Your Skin Hydrated this Winter

Winter fun woman portrait Winter is the hardest time to keep your skin looking great. With the bitter cold and dry air, and the indoor heat, your skin’s protective barrier goes through a lot during the winter, and if you don’t take preventative measures, you’ll never be able to escape the fate. Here are our tips on how to keep your skin healthy and glowing even with the cold weather:

  1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. After you get out of the shower, or after washing your face, make sure to always moisturize. Choose a moisturizer that is oil-based rather than water-based to improve moisture retention.
  2. Even though a long hot shower or bath seems appealing, try and keep your showers shorter and limit to once a day. Showers and baths can strip your skin of moisture and natural oils your skin needs to stay hydrated.
  3. Don’t forget sunscreen even in the winter. The sun can be just as damaging in the winter, and you’ll want to keep your skin protected.
  4. Drink lots of water. We tend to forget about water in the colder months, which can further dry out our skin. Make sure you stay hydrated and your skin will thank you.
  5. Exfoliate. Moisture cannot be absorbed if there are dead skin cells in the way. Using a gentle exfoliator can help
  6. Hyaluronic Acid is a great tool to teach your skin to hydrate on its own. Hyaluronic acid (HA), which is already found in the body, can be injected but can also be applied topically. Skin Medica’s HA5 is a great rejuvenating hydrator that helps replenish your bodies HA and keep it healthy overall.

Keeping your skin healthy and glowing in the winter can be hard, but the more you take care of your skin during these cold months, the more your skin will thank you in the future. Keeping your skin hydrated will keep your skin looking great for years, and seasons, to come. Don’t forget to bundle up if you’re going outside as well!
